7 Reasons to Visit Sacramento!

Looking for a unique city with lots of diversity that also happens to be California’s capital? 😉 Look no further than Sacramento! While I have just spent an afternoon in this town, I am so excited to be returning for a weekend in the new year, compliments of The Amber House Bed & Breakfast. I decided to do some searching on fun facts about “Sac Town” & here’s what I found so far:

Mark Twain was hired as a special news correspondent with the now-defunct Sacramento Union newspaper in 1866, chronicling some of the raucous early days of the region. The Missouri-born Twain started his writing career with the paper penning travel articles, and the Union published his musings about the far-off lands of Hawaii, Europe and the Holy Land.

The Pony Express originated in California’s capital city. The 1,980-mile mail delivery service began in 1860, and traveled from Sacramento to St. Joseph, Missouri. The operation required 200 relay stations, 80 riders and 500 horses to complete the 10-day ride.

Sacramento is ranked as the 23rd “Most Fun U.S City” in a survey conducted in 2003 by Cranium Inc. Factors taken into account in the ranking include: the number of sports teams, restaurants, dance performances, toy stores, the amount of a city’s budget that is spent on recreation, and other factors. Sacramento was also a finalist in the National Civic Leagues prestigious “All-America City Award”.
