A Day at Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula

In the bustling world we’re living in, it’s important to take some time out and surround yourself with good company. I was reminded of this when I met up with some wonderful friends for an afternoon at Temecula’s Pechanga Casino and Resort. Having not yet visited, Pechanga has been on my bucket list for a while. My introduction proved what a marvelous destination it is; I’m not much of a gambler (I just seem to lose) so while the casino isn’t a big “draw,” their restaurants and spa are.

Whether you’d like somewhere special for Valentine’s Day, or a day trip, read on to discover just a few choices that await you at Pechanga Casino and Resort.

Lobby Bar and Grill

My day at Pechanga began with lunch and drinks at Lobby Bar and Grill. As I made my way to the restaurant, I walked through the casino and glanced at other eateries and shops along the way. Ones for next time that caught my eye were Blazing Noodles and Umi Sushi and Oyster Bar

The Lobby Bar and Grill offers a modern American menu with an impressive Wellness menu featuring vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free plates. While there was plenty for me to have my eye on, I was longing for a signature dish at the grill.

Known for its Southern flare, the restaurant is famous for its shrimp and grits. While I knew their other in-house favorite, chicken and waffles, would be off-limits, I inquired about the grits. At first, it looked like it could not be prepared gluten-free as their recipe called for roux. We had such a hospitable staff in our server, Lawrence and chef, Fernando. The men happily updated me that my favorite Southern plate could be prepared for me!

It’s been said to be the best shrimp and grits outside of the South, and that may be the case. While a bit strong on the tang due to the rich cheese, the bowl satisfied this gal’s Southern spot. For dessert, we were treated to flavorful macaroons. Flaky and sweet, I loved the detailed attention to the cookies with a sugared “P” in the center of each morsel.

Spa Pechanga

Next up our group headed to the tranquil Spa Pechanga. Offering a multitude of services, we got to create body butters to take home with essential oils! For 18 dollars, guests can purchase a jar of body butter and enjoy an endless combination of oils to drop into your own creation. Want some ideas on creating a clever blend? The spa offers a fun app to customize your butters or even get a blend based on your birthday.

I decided to create my own. Recalling how much fun I had when I blended my own wine, off I went like a scientist attempting to create my ideal body butter blend. The outcome? My “Mary Lotion” is heavy on the Jasmine with a hint of lemon and sage. What’s even better is, the body butter ingredients are all-natural, vegan and plant-based like aloe vera, green tea, olive, and avocado oils.
