Dining on Belmont Shore’s 2nd Street

Do you recall when I lived in Long Beach, right on the Orange County border? With the gorgeous lighter days & summer temps upon us here in SoCal, it got me thinking of all the great eateries to enjoy in the Belmont Shore neighborhood, along their main drag, 2nd Street. Whether you’re a LA local or are going to be passing through, Belmont Shore is definitely an area to see & enjoy.

I thought I would go down the Dining list on their web-site & tell you some info about each & every spot I have tried on 2nd Street. Enjoy! xo

Aroma Di Roma
This intimate coffee-house also boasting lunch & gelato, enjoyed many years on the east end of 2nd Street, following a slight close up, & is now in its new home on the west end. With Italian natives running the cafe, you can guarantee a great cup of coffee. I like the cappuccino!

Babette’s Feast
Getting its inspiration from the 1980s Danish film, I absolutely love this French bistro with sandwiches, pastries, meringue & more.

Frosted Cupcakery
I swear I put on 10 pounds just walking into this heavenly shop! They have a daily gluten-free flavor & it’s always been legit.

George’s Greek Cafe
A Long Beach favorite, with locations throughout the area, George’s is always a place I love to get their Dalmas (grape leaves), fries & Greek salad plate for lunch.

Legend’s Sports Bar
It’s a sports bar. Translation: Loud, TV screens, so-so drinks & flirty men. Not a fave.

Nick’s on 2nd
If you want a posh, modern restaurant for a date night & don’t mind paying a bit more for your order, Nick’s is a great place. Good drinks, too!

Open Sesame
Many rave about the 2 locations of this Middle Eastern eatery, but, it’s never impressed me. Food & service the few times I went with friends was not memorable.

Panama Joes
My other home in Long Beach when I lived there! Its gone through changes over the years, & I cannot say I am loving their new menu, Panama Joes will always hold a special place in my heart as I have had birthday parties there, & been their before & after my trips to New York; it was a bit of my “send off” & “California, I’m home!” place to turn. (& have the Pop Rocks margarita!)

Shannon’s by the Bayshore
Shannon’s is a great, classic dive bar. You have to make yourself big to get the bartender’s attention, yell your order & hope someone leaves so you can grab a seat. I really loved their vibe.

Super Mex
Go to Panama Joes or Taco Surf, instead.

Taco Surf
Hands down, best vegetarian tacos ever! (Just make sure to say CORN TORTILLAS if you’re gluten-free!)

Thai Gourmet
Wonderful staff & delicious dinners & appetizers.

Yen
Great, wide selection of sushi. A bit more money but worth it. Good sake, too.

Z Pizza
If everyone wants pizza & you’re gluten-free, they’ve got a decent crust.

I’ve never been to this part of CA, but this looks like a great list to reference when I do make it out that way! 🙂 I love that you include honest tips about each of them–so much better than a blanket “it’s good” statement!

Thank you, Natalie! I’ve eaten at so many great spots, that I thought it was important to include the ones that didn’t leave an impression! 🙂

Hi Mary, when we lived in SoCal Belmont Shore was always a fun place to go shop, stroll and dine. Such a cute part of Long Beach. You have some great recommendations.

HaHahaha I’m surprised you didn’t mention the other Thai place…. the one you tried to get the Mango Sticky rice from during the Stroll and Savor in the summer!!! LOL 😉 That was too funny…. OH and YES!! When are we going for some Pop Rock Margaritas? I need some, they are sooo yummy, and FUN!!

I love Nicks on 2nd, tavern on 2, George’s Greek, BouBouffe, King’s Fish House on 3rd & Pine as well as La Parolaccia Osteria on Broadway. Such great food!! Also there are some newer places as well as “hole in the wall” within 10 mins or less on 4th street (long beach), main st in seal beach, as well as coffee houses too. I have been to all about 1 of the places you have listed (more than once too)
