The LA Food Fest Returns and Chance to win 2 Tickets from Along Comes Mary

Summer is winding down faster than I would like. While I don’t exactly love the heatwaves we’ve had, I love all opportunities be outside in LA. Preferably at a food and wine festival. Lucky for us Angelinos, the LA Food Fest will return at its brand new home at Santa Anita racetrack. While previous years have found the LA Food Fest at the beginning of summer, what a fantastic change of pace for 2018. We all can use a final hoorah and I think the LA Food Fest will be just that.

Mike and I have been several times, and always remember how much fun we had in 2014; its last year at the Rose Bowl.  While the LA Food Fest (formerly LA Street Food Fest) has seen a few locations and countless foodies, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the inauguration in Arcadia. For the price of admission, foodies get to sample over 50 different restaurants, food trucks and libations from some of the area’s best. While the festival, happening September 8th, has been a bit mysterious on what vendors we can look forward to, here are a few that appear to be in attendance and I cannot wait to taste.

And, if you read to then end-I may have a pair of tickets to giveaway, too!

Bulletproof Coffee

Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve probably heard about (or tried) keto coffee. At the root of this fat-burning craze is Bulletproof coffee.

The Bulletproof Process begins at the coffee’s origin, rooting out damaged (often moldy) beans from the start. Bulletproof coffee uses only beans from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms in Guatemala and Colombia, coffee estates that have a direct relationship with Bulletproof and that have been trained on the Bulletproof Process. From there, every step in the Bulletproof Process minimizes mold toxins.

Bulletproof uses a thorough, sustainable washing technique, rather than cheaper and more wasteful traditional methods that involve soaking coffee in large fermentation tanks. The coffee is then kept as dry as possible—under the bright sun and then in mechanical driers—to reduce moisture and opportunities for mold to grow.

Fitness buffs have been taking Bulletproof a bit further and adding Irish butter and vitamins. Judging from their Instagram, I think they may make a sampling appearance at LA Food Fest!

Lobsterdamus

Let’s get crackin’ is Lobserdamus’ motto and I am keeping my fingers crossed they’ll have something gluten-free should this post be a clue they’ll be joining the LA Food Fest. You know I love seafood, and Lobsterdamus is said to have some of the best shellfish coming out of Maine.

Amory Tacos

What’s an LA Food Fest without TACOS?! I have heard great (and delicious) things about Amory Tacos. Even the late, great Jonathan Gold has this to say in regards to Amory Tacos founder, “Thomas Ortega is redefining what Mexican food looks like at Playa Amor and Amor y Tacos.” So said the Puliter Prize winning food writer. That’s enough of a good word for me.

Dos Chinos

What’s even betteetr than Mexican food? Cobining it with Chinese food. Dos Chinos, “Two Chinese” in Spanish, was founded in 2010 by Hop Pham and Viet Tran, two childhood friends. Growing up surrounded by the Latin cultures of Santa Ana, Hop and Viet, though ethnically Vietnamese, were always called Chinos by their Mexican schoolmates. After they have struck up a partnership to open a Latin-Asian fusion food service, Dos Chinos became a fitting name.

OC Weekly awarded Dos Chinos with Orange County’s Best Taco and Orange County’s Best Burrito in 2014 and 2015, respectively, besting out dozens of contenders. But like many American entrepreneurial stories, Dos Chinos’s early journey wasn’t easy.

Hop loved to eat at food trucks; he and his cousin were big into following them around the country, always eager to try out new creations. Cheeseburger burritos, Truffle fries, Korean BBQ.

Today, Dos Chinos truck cruises all around Orange County, catering to local events, business parties, and neighborhoods. Their restaurants on 4th Street Marketplace in Downtown Santa Ana and Trade in Irvine are bustling.

What a great addition from Orange County to LA County.
