Ovation Premieres On the Record with Mick Rock!
Last night, cable channel, Ovation, premiered an amazing new 4 part show entitled: On the Record with Mick Rock. While some might be thinking, Mick who? Others are definitely dropping to their knees to celebrate this Rock & Roll photographer legend getting the recognition he deserves. While I admit that when Ovation approached me to feature a story on Mick, I did indeed cruise over to Google to check out his work & I was floored that SO many of my favorite photographs of such rock royalty like David Bowie, Queen & Deborah Harry, were indeed by him. He also is the mastermind behind the gorgeous book, Rocky Horror, all about Tim Curry & the infamous Rocky Horror Picture Show.
One of the things I love about Mick Rock, is that he is JUST as in demand as a photographer today as he was in the 1970s. For On the Record with Mick Rock, he will be introducing us to some of the artists he has collaborated with (The Flaming Lips, Patti LaBelle, Kings of Leon & Josh Groban, who was his guest on last night’s premiere) while joining them on a journey back to where it all began for each of them: Their hometown.
While “The Road” feels like the address of most popular musicians, I love the approach to this series in that we’re being given a rare glimpse to where some of our favorite artists began becoming who they are.
To celebrate this exciting new venture, I thought it would be a great opportunity to not write about my passion for music, for a change, but to instead share with you some of my favorite songs, many of which are by bands & artists that Rock has worked with (The Velvet Underground, Groban, Kings of Leon, Blondie) that each mean something deeply to me. And, who doesn’t love Spotify? 😉 While I hope you enjoy my playlist, I would love it even more if it inspires you to make your own to share with me.
On the Record with Mick Rock will have new episodes all August long, as well as re-runs in-case you missed anything. Make sure to check it out & let me know who you enjoyed learning about! xo
