Support Local: Ohio’s Mohicans Treehouse Resort

A mighty heatwave is outside my door here in Los Angeles. Despite yesterday, April 25th, often deemed as the “perfect date,” temperatures of 95 and 101 are a bit high for now. Perhaps Mother Nature knew we needed some excitement amidst the quarantine? After the 3.7 earthquake that scared the daylight out of me on 4-20, I’ll gladly take some extra sunshine instead. The light evenings and warmth that are creeping back in as we begin to welcome summer got me remembering some of my favorite memories from this time of year.

From my wedding anniversary to two weeks in Washington for the 2018 IFWTWA Conference, May is usually a fun month in my life. Last year was no exception as we headed to Ohio to spend three nights at the Mohicans Treehouse Resort. Located 70 miles out of Cleveland, the resort is nestled in Mohican County’s Glenmont. All treehouses are one of a kind, and built by the local Amish community of contractors and builders.

These are hard times for the exquisite resorts I’ve stayed with. Thus, welcome to Along Comes Mary’s latest installment in Support Local. A series inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic and “pause” we’re experiencing in the world. Today, I’m thrilled to tell you more about the Mohicans Treehouse Resort and their incredible giveaway now going on for all of the “Health Heroes” in the country.

Support Local: The Mohicans Treehouse Resort

While I jump at any kind of getaway, I always enjoy staying connected. Can you blame me? I love Instagram, taking pictures, posting pictures, researching articles. I soak in the local color, but send reports back to my community, too.

The Mohicans offered an entirely new and exhilarating experience. For a change, there are no “wifi codes” or “satellite TV.” Our stunning loft treehouse looked like a castle with its tier top and canopy bed (hence its name, El Castillo). I adored the vibe of “glamping” while getting away from it all. We slept like rocks (or should I say royalty?) each night, enjoyed hot showers, and cooked meals in our kitchenette.

You’ll be about 30 minutes away from a shopping plaza with a supermarket and Walmart as well as restaurants. This served perfectly for us as we picked up our necessities here for our dining in and snacks. And if you need to get back in-touch, several parts of the Mohicans property does have internet service.

If you’re looking ahead to planning some trips (this would be such a great stop on a road trip) once things begin to slowly resume, check out the Mohicans website HERE.

Planning a Wedding?

I know wedding planning is most likely on the back burner for now, but when married couples to be are searching for the perfect wedding venue, the Mohicans are continually voted as one of the best in Ohio and it’s clear to see why. Their Grand Barn offers ample, rustic space for your special day with full on-site catering and bar service. And, let’s not forget: you and your guests get to stay in one of a kind treehouses!

I’m also thrilled that the Mooney family, who own and operate the Mohicans Treehouse Resort, have just expanded to the Pacific Northwest. Learn more about the Klickitat Treehouse in White Salmon, Washington, HERE!

Giving Back to Essential Workers

From the Mohicans Instagram

While most of the country practice social distancing to do their part in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a select group that has become known as “Essential Services” who are fighting the battle on the front lines. This group of people, including Doctors, Nurses, Grocery Store Employees, Custodial Staff, Police, Firefighters, and many others, do not have the luxury of staying home and are tirelessly working to make sure the rest of us are taken care of. The Mohicans family would like to show our gratitude by giving away one complimentary two-night stay, for up to four people, in one of our treehouses to someone who has been working in any of the essential service industries and can use a well-deserved break.”

To nominate an essential worker, head on over to this Instagram post and follow the Mohicans’ guidelines. Winner will be announced on May 1st, 2020.

(*Disclosure: Thank you to the Mohicans for a wonderful hosted stay. Sweepstakes is the sole giveaway of the Mohicans and is in no way affiliated with Along Comes Mary. Void where prohibited and please direct all inquiries to the Mohicans.)
