Theatre Star Anthony Logan Cole Heading to Coronado.

We all know I am a hardcore Theatre lover, especially musicals. So, when my friend Melody (Check out here what amazing music & art shes creating here) told me about Anthony Logan Cole, probably best known as Javert in Les Miserables, mentioning how awesome he nails a Sondheim song, I knew he must be good. Cole is currently preparing to premiere one of his best ventures yet: Star of his very own Cabaret show. Having its world premiere at The Coronado Playhouse in Coronado, California (Right outside of San Diego, & very famously known for being the location spot for filming Marilyn Monroe’s Some Like it Hot) on April 14th, I was incredibly lucky to catch up with the non-stop busy Cole to ask him a few questions about his career & life. Enjoy!

How long have you been chasing the theatre dream?

It’s kinda crazy to say but it’s coming up on 10 years now!  I was hooked as a little kid when I saw Phantom in London in my 8th birthday. The fact that I’m living my dream is still crazy to me.

Along with your success in Les Mis, you have also been in RENT &  played The Beast, in one of my favorites, Beauty & the Beast. Which roles have meant the most to you?

That’s so hard to say.  Every role has something special.  Javert is the role I’ve done the most and he and I have a connection but I have to say its been the new musicals I’ve been involved with recently that really take the cake.  Song Of Solomon, which is getting a Broadway bow VERY soon was an amazing experience.  Also having created the roles of Prince Tor/Kitchen Troll in Find The Golden Bird, which makes it’s Off-Broadway debut this fall, and KAHN-rad Badguy in Warp Speed: A Sci-Fi Parody Musical were incredible experiences.

From what our friend, Melody, tells me, you nail the Sondheim songs! What can the audience expect at your cabaret show, & what do you hope they take away from seeing you?

This cabaret show is incredibly different from anything I’ve done before.  Just Misunderstood: Broadway’s Villains and Misunderstood Characters and An Evening With Michael Padgett and Anthony Logan Cole, my two previous cabaret shows which had phenomenal runs at The Metropolitan Room, The Duplex, and 54 Below were fun evenings of stories and songs. You’ve Hungered For This All Your Life is my story from beginning to now.  The good, the bad, and the broadway told through stories and songs.  I’m putting myself out there for the audience.  The amazing Tim and Megan Larsen and Steven Hinter Taylor play not only themselves but other people in my life.  We talk about life on the road, love, dirty lyric changes and more.  I hope people will laugh and leave feeling empowered to chase their dream.

Whats the collaboration process been like to make this show?

Tim, Megan, and Steve did a performance of Just Misunderstood with me at the Duplex after our run in Les Mis together.  We began talking about doing something different.  Steve, my musical director/co-director and I really wanted to share something more personal.  This spawned the show we are premiering in San Diego.
