Visit The Greek Theatre this Summer!

Last year, I had the privilege of heading out to The Greek Theatre for 2 concerts to feature on ACM (Carly Rae Jepsen & Eek! At The Greek) & having only been there once before that in 2002, I had forgotten how gorgeous & lush this venue truly is.

Nestled right inside the middle of historic Griffith Park, The Greek Theatre came to life with its first performance in 1930. Park land baron, Griffith J. Griffith (peculiar name!) left the needed funds in his will to build the theatre & the canyon location was chosen due to the great acoustics. The name is quite straight forward: because the stage was built like a Greek temple.

The surrounding LA neighborhood of Los Feliz makes it worth it to spend the afternoon there before your show. Right there on Vermont, besides The Greek, are countless eateries that get my stamp of approval (Try the huevos rancheros at Fred 62, or the Philadelphia roll at Starfish Sushi, if you’re not gluten-free, don’t miss House of Pies!). Do some shopping at Pop Killer, Replay or any of the adorable hipster boutiques & grab a drink after your show at The Mad Men-esque Dresden Bar. Cool cat vibes & live music on most nights.

This Summer, The Greek is proud to present such a vast variety of awesome performers; The Gypsy Kings, Massive Attack, Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos & Lorde are just a few that caught my attention.

On July 2nd, they will welcome another performance I hope to be at. Bob Weir & Ratdog will hit the stage, along with their special guests, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood.

Weir knows a thing or two about staying fresh and living in the moment. Although best known as one of the founding members of the Grateful Dead, adding Dead staples such as “Truckin’,” “Sugar Magnolia,” and “Cassidy” to the band’s catalog, Weir obtained a long and affluent music career that has allowed him to do what he loves and share it with others for nearly his entire life.
RatDog has undergone many changes, both in personnel and musical approach. The band has evolved from a blues revue into a musical fusion of backgrounds and talents; complex, energetic and adventurous. The members are no longer a supporting cast for front man Weir but a full force powerhouse, capable of taking music fans to new and mystical places every night.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood are a band I have had the pleasure of seeing numerous times. Always putting on an amazing set, with a mix of mellow sounds to full on rock out, The Brotherhood boys know how to have a good time & they’re sure to get everyone in the party, laid back mood at The Greek for a great night!
