The Autry Museum is a treasure to Los Angeles. Perhaps I’m biased since my grandma was a founding member back in its “Gene Autry Museum” early era. Although I was under five, I have vivid memories of membership launch parties and past exhibits like “How the West was Worn.” I also remember its intimate theatre, which screened classic Western and Autry films. The cafeteria was open and bustling, and the children’s play space has since seen many chapters.

That’s why this weekend will be special to me. The Autry will host their annual Block Party on Saturday, September 26th. The Autry has become a go-to for my family and me. It’s just large enough to get some walking and wiggles out, explore the elaborate exhibits, pop into the play space, and enjoy the garden. Not to mention, you’re in the center of Griffith Park.

Attend the Autry Annual Block Party

The Autry Annual Block Party is a community-focused celebration in Los Angeles, offering a fun-filled day for all ages. This special event invites all the Autry’s neighbors to celebrate everything that makes L.A. unique. They plan a lively carnival atmosphere with music, games, food, and more. Families can explore the museum while participating in hands-on activities, such as face painting, plein air painting, and even meeting the PBS character, Nature Cat.

It’s also an ideal opportunity to visit the Autry’s latest exhibitions, Life, Liberty, and Los Angeles and Promised Lands. Mabel has been getting a kick out of the original drive-thru speaker from In ‘n Out and the Disneyland Autopia car featured in Life, Liberty, and Los Angeles. Promised Lands will open on Saturday, so that’s another reason to visit for the Block Party.

Throw Back Admission

Tickets are available this week for the price of admission when the Autry opened in 1988. That means $4.75 for adults and $2 for kids! New this year is Dino Land, which offers families a Jurassic Park immersive experience, plus inflatables, crafts, and more.
